Job Opening: Myrtle Beach Jail

How good buddy Kurt Knapek wrote this story with a straight face is beyond me.

Here's the gist: An 18-year-old white dude claimed to be another Myrtle Beach jail "resident" and was released even though he still owed the city a few more days in the clink.

Guys try to get out early all the time. Not a shock.

But in this case, the 18-year old was successful despite the fact that he claimed to be a 34-year-old black man. Exactly how did this get by the crack staff at Myrtle Beach?

Apparently, Kurt reported, with the other man's belongings:

"That included $2 in change, a silver necklace, a gold-colored wedding
band, a pair of gold-studded earrings and Gardner's S.C. identification
card, the report states."

I'm only hoping Richard Daniel Wines -- the man released early -- doesn't spend that $2 all in one place. Regardless, anyone looking for a job may want to contact the Myrtle Beach city jail. There should be an opening soon.

Through sources, I received a copy of the job advertisement a couple days early.

COMPANY: Myrtle Beach Jail, City of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

POSITION: Inmate Release Clearance Officer

DATE POSTED: June 22, 2009

DATE CLOSED: Open until filled, although company is looking to make a quick move on this one.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Hire will be responsible for clearing inmates for release after fulfillment of their sentence via a variety of confirmation questions and outside sources. Previous experience not required, but ability to tell the difference between two people of different races and 16 years of age highly recommended. The bar for this position has been set extremely low -- but we're looking for a go-getter, primarily because one of your first jobs will require you to track down one of our last inmates.
