Here's what you need to know about me:

I outkicked my coverage when it comes to my smart, beautiful wife, Katie. Paraphrasing famed Kansas City Star Sports Columnist Joe Posnanski (in a story he told about former Royals pitcher Dan Quisenberry), I've found a woman who's 100 times smarter than me; I'm just using every day trying to catch up.

I used to be a full-time sports writer, but got out of the business when the writing was on the wall. I still freelance for a number of news outlets, primarily The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News, Weekly Surge magazine and the Sports XChange wire service. Links to that work can be found here.

My second career is where I now find myself. I stumbled into running karaoke shows around the Grand Strand and discovered that I love the gig. I've lucked into several regular shows, but I also DJ private parties, weddings, business meetings and anything else where some music makes things just a little bit better.

Other than that, I'm an unabashed Mizzou and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and Katie and I named our dog -- a six-pound ball of furry -- after our favorite Mizzou football player, Jeremy Maclin. Sure, being a Tigers and Chiefs fan comes with a glass-half-empty outlook. But lucky for me, I live at the beach, so even when my teams stink, the weather here is generally pretty nice.
